Winter’s officially started

Henry

Henry

Hi everyone

Well Winter’s officially here, with the clock’s going back at the weekend and the nights will start to draw in.

We are still looking to appeal for foster homes for some horses and ponies, who are looking for the right foster home for them. There are a few children’s ponies available and also a 17.2 hh thoroughbred called Gerry, who is 12 years old, he has done some dressage and showjumping, but does need an experienced rider.

As regular readers are aware, we have quite a few elderly horses and ponies at the Sanctuary and unfortunately have had to call out the vet several times recently which has accumulated into a high vet’s bill.  Fortunately, nothing too serious was diagnosed and all are now doing well, however if there is anyone out there with any ideas of how we can fund-raise coming up to Christmas to help pay the vet’s bill, please get in touch.

Volunteers John and Jenny are holding a Christmas Stall this coming weekend on Saturday 2nd November at the Melton Mowbray Market.   There will be some absolutely delicious home-made Christmas cakes and biscuits and also some great Christmas decorations and gifts as well.  So if you’re in Melton, please pop over and grab yourself some Christmas bargains.

A big thank you to volunteer Jo, who kindly took one of our collection tins around her work colleagues at Kia again and raised a fantastic £130, and also a big thank you to those at Kia for their support.

Remember we have a beautiful acrylic painting of Cherry by Carol Warren, size (in frame) is 18 inches by 14 inches  which is up for auction to raise funds for the sanctuary. The current bid is standing at £100 and if you would like to place a bid, please email Chris on christine.bell3@ntlworld.com or text 07967 225665 with your bid. The closing date is Saturday 9th November at 12.00 noon. The painting will be at the yard on the morning of the 9th November for viewing.

A big thank you to volunteers, John, Jenny and Kirsty who raised £152 from holding a car boot sale on Sunday, and for John who raised £180 for the sale of a donated horse cart.   Also a big thank you to volunteer Jo who took a collection tin to her workplace at Kia and raised £150 in one week – thank you to all the workers at Kia for their support.

We are holding a street collection in Melton Mowbray on Saturday 16th November and are looking for volunteers to help out on the day.  Please get in touch with Carole if you are able to help out.

Sponsored Dog Walk 2013

All at the start......

All at the start……

Hi Everyone

On Saturday 12th October, the big fundraising event of the 5km Sponsored Walk / Dog Walk took place at RandR Country Superstore on Waltham Road, Thorpe Arnold, in Melton Mowbray.

Participants and their lovely four-legged friends arrived at the store to sign in at the registration table, ready to start the walk at 2.00pm. All dogs were given (and enjoyed) their Pedigree Smacko (delicious and nutritious meaty dog treat) and their rosette and certificate. Just after 2.00pm everyone was gathered together for some group photographs. Unfortunately Carole Fielding was unable to attendr due to needing to be at the yard, but that didn’t stop the speeches and thank yous, then the walk was underway!

At the half way point and very wet!

At the half way point and very wet!

The group moved as one and headed towards Melton Country Park, the weather was a bit unsettled but then the drizzle started. By the time everyone had reached the half way mark, the rain came heavily down, but spirits were up and more photos were taken, and after a short rest the group then continued on the walk. Everyone arrived safely back at RandR Country Superstore, soaked but happy and received their doggy goody bag (which contained a portable water bowl, a dog poop bag dispenser, gourmet dog treats, a mug, water bottle dispenser and a rag chew, all presented in a fantastic R&R hessian bag). A great fun afternoon was had by all.

Participants raised just over £800 for Pablo’s Horse Sanctuary. We would like to give a HUGE thank you to the following who participated in the Sponsored Walk / Dog Walk (dog names are in italics):

Susan Grogan and Benji; Dawn Webb and Rosie; Rachel Hall and Heidi / Isaac; Rosie Paine and Maddy; Christine Bell and Sam; Jade Townsend and Martie; Emily Pick and Barney; Lucy Higgins and Ted; Samantha Arme and Shaunie; Janine Overton and Dolly; and Rita and Jim Leggat and Charlie.

dw132An extra HUGE thank you to everyone who participated in the Sponsored Dog Walk, and to those very kind people who sponsored our walkers and their dogs, and of course to Wendy Beale and her great team at RandR Country Superstore for supporting the event and providing such fantastic doggy goodie bags, also to Pee Wee Toilet Hire for supplying the beautiful rosettes. The money raised will go towards this quarter’s rent of the main yard and fields at Long Clawson.

More photos below.

Thank you to volunteer Sam for holding a car boot at Melton Market last Sunday which raised £50, despite the low turnout of numbers due to the bad weather. However, volunteers Sam and John will be holding a huge car boot sale this Sunday at Melton Market and will be spread of 3 tables! Lots of fantastic good quality items are ready to be picked up as a bargain – great stuff in time for Christmas.

If anyone out there has any spare grazing available over the Winter period, for any of our very sweet, elderly ponies who can no longer be ridden, please get in touch.

May we kindly request that if you have a horse or pony (or know of) that is requiring sanctuary, please do not contact Pablos at the moment, as the Sanctuary is full and is not able to financially support any more animals in need.

Have a good week

Count down to Dog Walk

Hi Everyone

Well it’s only a few days to go before the Sponsored Dog Walk on Saturday at 2.00pm. The meeting and starting point is at R&R Country store, Thorpe End in Melton Mowbray, for a gentle walk around Melton Country Park.  Thank you to those who are supporting the walk and we look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

A big thank you to volunteers John and Kirsty who held a fundraising stall on Melton Market on Saturday 5th October  and raised a fantastic £160 and also got donated a sack of carrots.   Volunteer Sam will be holding  a car boot this Sunday 13th, to raised some much need funds.

As our Sanctuary is full, may we appeal to any horse owners who have horses and ponies that can no longer be ridden, to look at every avenue possible to keep their horses and ponies as companions.  There is a huge problem at the moment, with horse sanctuaries being full to bursting point and can we please ask  for people not to contact the sanctuary as we can not take in any more horses or ponies.  This week an article on the equine problem was published in the Daily Mail newspaper, please click on the link for more information http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2444893/Abandoned-starving-death-horses-dumped-owners-slump-demand-horsemeat-scandal.html
