Introducing Bumblebee

Introducing Bumblebee

Hi Everyone

All the horses and ponies are well and have been enjoying this lovely sunny warm weather that we’ve had over the past few days and all very welcome!

This week, sanctuary was given to a lovely pony called Bumblebee who had been on the waiting list for a long time. Bumblebee is 23 years old welsh pony, chestnut in colour and in her time has given birth to 16 foals! Her loving owner is emigrating to Canada and had been trying to find a good home for Bumblebee, but due to her age and that she had never been broken-in, there was no interest in her. Fortunately, Bumblebee will now spend her life at Pablos.

This week also saw the visit of some of the members of Croxton Lodge in Melton Mowbray, a Mental Health Hospital which supports people who need extra care and support; people with a learning disability who have complex needs; people who feel very stressed or unhappy because of mental health problems; people with Autism and people who have had an accident or illness that damaged their brain. After an enjoyable visit on Wednesday, where help was given with the poo-picking of the fields and plenty of grooming of the ponies (Minty in the photo), it is hoped that they can come down on a Monday as well.

Look out for the next quarterly newsletter! So all those who generously give a monthly gift on standing order scheme, or those who sponsor a horse or pony should start looking out for the postman next week for their newsletter. If anyone would like to help by giving a monthly gift of £2 or £3 per month, it would be really appreciated. All these amounts do make a hugh difference to help to keep the sanctuary running. Just download for the form on “How you can help” tab.

Ponies looking for homes

Icarus and Penny sheltering from the rain

Icarus and Penny sheltering from the rain

Hi Everyone All the horses and ponies are well and are trying to enjoy the summer weather (well, when the sun finally appears), but their field shelters are still in use for when the rain comes! Last week all the rain caused flooding in some of the fields they have yet the chance to dry out!

Jack keeping out of the rain!

We are some super young ponies (all geldings) in care at the Sanctuary at the moment, all looking for suitable homes. All these have not had the best start in life and need the care and expertise of someone who is experienced in handling young ones to bring them on, as they all have the potential (and cheeky personalities) to make fantastic ponies. One of these ponies has been trained using the clicker-training method (which he really enjoys) and is eager to learn more. Again, we must stress that these ponies are not first ponies, as they do need an experienced foster home, so if you would like more information and to meet the available ponies, please get in touch with Carole.

We would like to appeal to anyone who could help out with fundraising. As you know we have a very small group of volunteers who help out with the fundraising, however some of the outside events which have been organised have been beaten by wet weather and this is having a huge effect on the amount of money raised to keep to Sanctuary going. If you (or if you know of anyone) who would be able to hold a car boot sale or table top sale, please could you get in touch. We are able to supply plenty of good quality items to sell – we just need help in holding the stalls. Please do get in touch if you are able to help.

Our volunteer Wendy took the New and Nearly New Equine stall to Stathern Gymkhana on Sunday which raised a fantastic £135. A big thank you to Mrs Yvonne Chandler and the committee for supporting Pablos, and a thank-you to everyone who purchased items. The stall will be at Soar Valley Riding club on Sunday 30th June, at Hosefest Gymkhana on Saturday 6th July and at the Buckminster & Sewstern Show on Sunday 14th July. If anyone has any items of tack/kit that they would like to donate to support the stall, it would be really appreciated, please contact Carole or Wendy.

A huge thank you to Sharon and Jeff for their kind donation of a bale of haylage this week.

Tickets are now available for the fundraising music night, featuring the fantastic BasketCase, on Saturday 27th July at Tubes nightclub in Melton (1st floor suite). If you like punk, sleaze and a piece of cheese – then you’ll love BasketCase – you can check them out at https://www.facebook.com/BasketCaseGB. Flooded fields

Flooded fields

Hi Everyone

All the horses and ponies are well and have been relaxing in their paddocks this week, but then heading for their field shelters when rain came lashing down! Unfortunately, this has caused flooding in some of the fields but hopefully the sun will come out this coming week and dry them out.

Volunteer John held a fundraising stall at Cotgrave Festival on Saturday, but unfortunately the downpours of rain came and the show was beaten by the elements, however a huge thank you to John for all his efforts and support.

General and Sooty

Hi Everyone

All the horses and ponies are well and have enjoyed the past week relaxing in the sunshine.

As regular readers may be aware, Pablo’s Horse Sanctuary was one of the 3 community groups selected as part of “Community Matters”, a charitable giving scheme being run by John Lewis in Highcross in Leicester. Every 3 months each John Lewis shop will select 3 community groups to help. Customers are directly involved in deciding how much each nominated group receives, by using a token to vote for the organisation they’d like to support. Each shop has £3000 to donate which will be split between the 3 charities according to the proportion of the vote they’ve received from customers. The Community Matters boxes will be located in restaurant / cafe catering areas of each shop. We are pleased to report that a fantastic £660 has been raised as part of the Community Matter scheme, which will help to towards paying the outstanding vet’s bill. A huge thank you to John Lewis and to everyone who voted for us.

Hi Everyone

All the horses and ponies are well and have been enjoying the lovely weather this weekend (two weekends with good weather – may we wish for many more!).

We are pleased to report to announce that Pablo’s Horse Sanctuary has been voted to receive support help from Resources for Equines In Need (R.E.I.N) which is a friendly group on Facebook for horse lover’s that like to get involved in fundraising and charitable events.  REIN support a different charity each month and all help source resources (whether items or help and information) for many different causes.
