Proper Bank Holiday weather

Shanty, Lottie and Bella

Shanty, Lottie and Bella in the Summer shade

Hi Everyone

What a fantastic bank holiday with proper bank holiday weather!  All the horses and ponies are all well.  This week, two of our mares, Lulu and Savannah went on their Summer holidays to join some of the other horses and ponies at Burton Park, which are cared for by our volunteer Andrea. It is such a lovely area and they will enjoy their Summer days, relaxing in such beautiful surroundings.

We would like to appeal if anyone could help out with donating a strimmer, or be able to donate their time and bring their own strimmer.  We have many fields around Melton Mowbray, which all could do with a strim around the edge of the fields.  If you could help in any way, please contact Carole.

Our Fix-It Team held a stall at the Melton Market on Saturday 25th May, which raised an amazing £142.05 for essential yard maintenance.  Our volunteer John will be at the Melton Market this coming Saturday 1st June, with the stall (and a delicious homemade cake or two for sale!) to raise funds.

Our volunteer Wendy took the New and Nearly New Equine stall to Rearsby Lodge Riding club at Brooksby college on Sunday which raised an amazing £248.50.   A big thank you to  Liz Atkins, her committee, and all of the members for their continued support.  One of the visitors to the stall was Spirit who was a bit of of bargain hunter and enjoyed looking at the stall!  A big thank-you from Wendy and the Pablo’s team as we would not be able to achieve sales like this without donations from kind supporters. If anyone is having a sort out over the school holidays, we still need more riding kit and tack, so please think of Pablos. The New and Nearly New stall will be at Soar Valley Riding club , Quorn, on Sunday 9th June.

We would also like to thank volunteer Tommy (from the Fix-It team) for donating a new Gazebo for the stall, as the previous had an accident last summer (strong gust of wind).

Also on Saturday 8th June, volunteer John will be holding an awareness stall at Arena UK. On the stall we are hoping to sell some delicious homemade cakes on the day, and appeal for anyone out there who could help by donating / making homemade cakes for John to sell and raise much needed funds. If you are able to help, please get in touch with Carole.

A huge thank you to Katie for her kind donations of equine items for the equine stall, and also to Tracey and Oliver for their kind donation of bags of feed and equine items for our stall.

Have a good week

We would like to appeal again for anyone who could help out with donating use of a horse-trailer or horse box, as the sanctuary does not have its own horse transport, so if you could help out, even just the once, it would really be appreciated. If anyone has a horse trailer that they could donate? (if it needs repairing then we would be able to make the repairs). If anyone can help please get in touch with Carole.

Introducing Manfred

Manfred (or affectionally as Mannie)

Manfred (or affectionally as Mannie)

Hi Everyone

All the horses and ponies are well, and this week we welcome a new addition to the main yard.  An 18 year old little minature horse called Manfred, along with his companion, a minature goat called Petal, who both had been on the waiting list a long time, and finally were given sanctuary.  Manfred has settled in very well and is a really sweetie, as you can see from the photos, a handsome little horse as well.  Unfortunately, his owner was unable to care for him any longer, but he came from a loving home and Manfred will now spend his twilight years at the sanctuary.

We would like to appeal again for  anyone who could help out with the use of a horse-trailer or horse box, as the sanctuary does not have its own horse transport.  We have been offered free grazing, and need to move some of the horses and ponies onto these fields for their Summer grazing.  It costs around £50-60 a session to hire transport to move them, which is a struggle to find, so if you could help out, even just the once, it would really be appreciated. If anyone has a horse trailer that they could donate?  If it needs repairing then we would be able to make the repairs.  If anyone can help please get in touch with Carole.

Save the Date – on Sunday 25th August 2013 is our Open Day.

Our volunteer Wendy will be taking the New and Nearly New Equine Stall to the Sutton Bonington Riding club show on Sunday 19th May and on to Rearsby Lodge on 26th May, both will be weather permitting.  Wendy raised £35 in direct sales this week, so thank you to everyone who has purchased items and to those who have donated.

Thank you this week to Rosie for her kind donation of equine items and to Victoria for donating her proceeds made from her wrapping Christmas presents service last year.

Have a good week (rain hats may be needed!)

A Beautiful Bank Holiday Weekend

The New and Nearly New Equine Stall at Quorn on Monday

The New and Nearly New Equine Stall at Quorn on Monday

Hi Everyone

Well, what a wonderful bank holiday weekend with such glorious weather.  The horses and ponies are all well and were soaking up the much welcomed sun this week, with having shade provided by their field shelter when needed.

We would like to appeal again for  anyone who could help out with the use of a horse-trailer or horse box, as the sanctuary does not have its own horse transport.  We need to move horses and ponies around grazing areas at all times of the year, and especially at this time of the year.  It costs around £50-60 a session to hire transport to move the horses to their Summer grazing, which is a struggle to find, so if you could help out, even just the once, it would really be appreciated. If anyone has a horse trailer that they could donate?  If it needs repairs then we would be able to make the repairs. We sometimes have offers of donations of hay, but only if we can collect, so if anyone can help please get in touch with Carole.

Our volunteer Wendy took the New and Nearly New Equine Stall to CHAPS (the showing show) at the Farley way show site in Quorn on bank holiday Monday which raised an amazing £208.  A big thank you to Nigel and his team for their support and letting us bring the stall along.  Also at the weekend, on Saturday, volunteer John held a fundraising stall on Melton Market which raised £105, and it was on his birthday – you star John!  Also a big thank you to volunteer Russ, for taking part in the Cotgrave Safari Sale and donating all his proceeds to Pablos.

A huge thank you to Mrs Walsh and Mrs Salter for their kind donations this week, and to also the village shop in Long Clawson which had £28.03 in their collecting tin and The Sands Deli (in Long Clawson) who collected  £15.70 in their tin, and to all the very kind customers of the shop and the Deli for their continued support.
