Happy Easter

Jack enjoying the bit of sunshine

Jack enjoying the bit of sunshine

Hi Everyone

Hope you are all having a good Easter break and it’s lovely to see a bit of sunshine.  Although it’s still very cold (apparently we’re having average temperatures for January!) it is lovely to feel a bit of sunshine on the skin.  The horses and ponies have also been enjoying the moments of sunshine over the weekend, as it has been a particularly cold week.  As regular readers are aware, the horses and ponies are due to go back on to their paddocks on 1st April, but due to the weather there is water still sitting on the fields and the grass hasn’t been able to grow, so unfortunately they are not allowed on to their fields.  Once the weather picks up and dries out the fields, and the grass is able to grow they will be able to move back, until then they will have to remain in their Winter quarters on the yard.  This does have an impact on financials of the Sanctuary as extra hay is needed to be purchased to keep the horses and ponies fed on the yard.  If there is anyone who could help out with donating some hay to keep us going for a few more weeks, it would really be appreciated.  Or if there is anyone out there who could hold a car-boot stall on our behalf, we could supply the goods to sell, it would really be appreciated.  Please could you get in touch with Carole, if you think you would be able to help.

We would like to thank Mole Valley Feeds for inviting us to participate in their Open Day on Friday and Saturday.  Volunteer John was there and Mole Valley staff offered to sponsor Moley (one of our ponies) if John would have his face painted.  Not to miss an opportunity to raise funds, John rose to the challenge and had his face painted and the £20 sponsorship deal was won!  Well done John.

Pablos has been offered a supermarket collection at Morrison’s in Melton Mowbray for the whole week!  From Monday 15th to Sunday 21st April, volunteers will be at Morrison’s supermarket – so if you see any of our volunteers please pop over and say hello and any spare change will be appreciated!

Following an appeal, we have received numerous offers of help over the past week.  A huge thank you to all those who have supported us, it is really appreciated.

Have a good week

Yet more snow

Pony Field 24.03.13

Pony Field 24.03.13

Hi Everyone

All the horses and ponies are well, but what a white surprise greeted everyone this weekend.  The snow and freezing winds from Siberia hit us all hard over the weekend, and thank you to all the volunteers who braved the snow and ice, and to those who even walked to the yard!  Hopefully, that will be the last of the snow and things can maybe start to warm up a bit.  As some of you may know on 1st April, the horses and ponies are able to go back on to the fields for their Summer quarters however with the fields still wet and a little short on grass, they may not be able to back onto the fields next week.  This has an impact on financials of the Sanctuary as extra hay is needed to be purchased to keep the horses and ponies fed on the yard.  If there is anyone who could help out with donating some hay to keep us going for a few more weeks, it would really be appreciated.

Our Lulu is now back on the yard at Long Clawson, as her foster carer is no longer able to look after her due to moving away to a new area.  It is planned for Lulu to be moved up to the fields at Burton Lazars, to join the horses and ponies there where they are being looked after by volunteer Andrea.

As it has been a long Winter, and funds are much needed to keep the Sanctuary running, we have two wonderful stars – Ken and Ann who hold regular car-boot sales to raise funds.  If there is anyone out there who could hold a car-boot stall on our behalf, we could supply the goods to sell, it would really be appreciated.  Please could you get in touch with Carole, if you think you would be able to help.

Our volunteer Wendy is planning (weather permitting) to take the New and Nearly New stall on Monday 1st April to Rearsby Lodge Riding Club at Brooksby for their Cross-Country Open Event.  Wendy has also raised £45 by direct sales, so thank you to everyone who has bought items and also donated items.

Also thank you to GeeTac for their very kind donation of pooper-scoopers, rugs and tack.  You can find out more about GeetTac by visiting their website http://geetac.co.uk/.

A huge thank you this week to our kind farrier Richard Spence for his donation of some bales of hay.  Farrier Richard Spence always does a fantastic job with our horses and ponies, especially Daisy whose feet are quite complex and Cherry who needs that extra support due to her blindness.  The hay is really appreciated and helps us out.

Have a good week.

Happy Mother’s Day

Snow on 10th March!

Snow on 10th March!

Hi Everyone

Just to wish all mother’s a happy Mother’s Day, today.

All the horses and ponies are well, and on Sunday morning when the volunteers arrived at the yard, they found it covered in snow – on 10th March!  There was a freezing cold wind to add to the chilly weather and as you can see from the photos, the horses and ponies were using their shelters to the full!

In a few weeks time, two of our Dartmoor ponies, Dizzy and Dodger will be returning as their foster owner is no longer able to look after them.  They are now approx 18 months old, and will be looking for another foster home. If you have the experience and facilities to care for these two geldings, please get in touch. As space and resources are stretch to the maximum, may we kindly request that, if you have a horse or pony in need of sanctuary, please do not call Pablo’s as, with the greatest respect and understanding we are unable to help at this time.  We wish we could, but do not have the capacity, resources or funds to help.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to our fabulous car booters, Ken and Ann for raising £90 on their stall this week, and also to volunteers John and Gayle for holding a stall on Melton Market on Saturday and raising and amazing  £150.

Volunteer Wendy took the New and Nearly New Equine Stall to a Quorn Pony Club Rally at Brooksby College and raised £50.50.  A big thank you to  Sue Henton and all of the pony club members for their support.  A box of new “Hacked off” jodhpurs and “Hoof it” boots has been donated from Gallopers (UK) Ltd to sell, so a huge thank you to Bex of Gallopers UK for her support.  We always really appreciate all donations that can be sold to raise much needed funds to keep the Sanctuary going, so please if you have any equine riding clothes, tack, rugs or any other equine items that you no longer need, please think of us and contact Wendy. If you would like the New and Nearly New stall to visit your show or yard then please contact Wendy at whcarter @onetel.com or 07831 453504.

Have a good week.

Full House

Dolly in the Winter sunshine

Dolly in the Winter sunshine

Hi Everyone

All the horses and ponies are well this week, and have enjoyed the warmer weather that we had this weekend.  Is it feeling like Spring is finally on it’s way?

You may be aware there is an equine crisis happening in this country at the moment, with herds of horses being abandoned and horse charities all over the UK being full to the point of bursting.  Unfortunately Pablo’s is no exception and is full to capacity.  Over the past week, there has been 14 calls in just one day to the charity asking for sanctuary for horses and ponies, that have either been abandoned, unwanted or their owner can no longer care for them. Unfortunately Pablo’s is also a charity which is struggling financially to keep running and caring for the 65 horses and ponies at the Sanctuary. In a few weeks, two of the rehomers will be returning and space is needed to be found for them.

May we kindly request that, if you have a horse or pony in need of sanctuary, please do not call Pablo’s as, with the greatest respect and understanding we are unable to help at this time.  We wish we could, but do not have the capacity, resources or funds to help.

Volunteer Wendy has raised £90 from people contacting her directly for items from the New and Nearly New Equine Stall.  A hugh thank you to all those for their support, for both purchase and donations. If you would like the New and Nearly New stall to visit your show or yard then please contact Wendy at whcarter @onetel.com or 07831 453504.

A big thank you this week to long-standing supporter, Graham from Global Safety for his kind donation of £320 and to Oldham Marsh Solicitors for their kind donation of £42.

Unfortunately, volunteer John was unable to hold a fundraising stall on the Melton Mowbray market on Saturday 2nd March, however it is planned to hold the stall this Saturday  – and he’ll be selling his delicious home-made cakes!

Have a good week.
