All the horses and ponies are well and have come through another week of snow, ice and freezing conditions. Again we would like to thank all the volunteers who managed to make the journey thorough the bad weather to help out on the yard – the sanctuary couldn’t run without you. Also we would like to give a special thank you to the Police and a kind gentleman with a 4×4 vehicle for coming to Carole’s aid when her car went into a skid and ended up stuck across the road, just after the brow of a very large hill! Luckily, no-one was harmed and the car was towed to safety.

As promised, we have some more information about the launch of Community Matters, a charitable giving scheme being run by John Lewis in Highcross in Leicester. Every 3 months each John Lewis shop will select 3 community groups to help. Customers will then be directly involved in deciding how much each nominated group receives, by using a token to vote for the organisation they’d like to support. Each shop will have £3000 to donate which will be split between the 3 charities according to the proportion of the vote they’ve received from customers. This means that if a charity receives 31% of the votes, it’ll receive a £910 donation. The Community Matters boxes will be located in restaurant / cafe catering areas of each shop. All customers will be given
one token per transaction, and will be able to follow how much of the vote each organisation receives over the 3 months. SO please, if you are in John Lewis, please pop into their cafe, make a purchase to get your token and place the token in Pablo’s Horse Sanctuary box!
General and Winston catch some Winter rays (for a brief moment!)
A huge thank you this week to volunteers, John, Jenny and Gayle for raising £140 by holding a market stall in Melton on Saturday; to Rebecca Persse from Wales who has supported Pablos with the first sale on Preloved; to John and Denise (fostering Tika) for their kind donation of 10 bags of feed and to Sandra Dale for her kind donations of fantastic equine items for the New and Nearly New Stall. If you would like to know what items are available from the tack stall please contact Wendy at whcarter @onetel.com or 07831 453504. It is planned for the next New and Nearly New Stall to be at Brooksby on 17th February.
Please remember the supermarket collection at the Co-operative Superstore on Scalford Road in Melton Mowbray is on Saturday 2nd February. So, look out for our volunteers on the day, and please pop over to say hello and any spare change will be really appreciated.
Have a good week.
Little Jerry and Christina Scarlet in the snow
All the horses and ponies are well this week. With the downfall of the snow over the past week and the cold temperatures, we wanted to say a big thank you to all the volunteers who have managed to make it up to the yard, braving the sub-zero conditions to look after all the horses. For those of you who have visited the yard, you know that it is at the bottom of a steep hill and this doesn’t make the yard easy to get to in snow. The water pipes froze so water has had to be carried physically from the brook at the bottom of the fields again. However, despite this, all our horses are doing really well, and keeping warm and comfortable.
Our volunteer Wendy was due to take the New and Nearly New Equine stall at Rearsby Lodge Dressage show at Brooksby on Sunday 20th January, but unfortunately this was cancelled due to the bad weather. However, not to be beaten by the weather, Wendy as set up a Pablo’s Horse Sanctuary account at Preloved.co.uk and will be selling saddles and the more expensive items on that site – but they are still a bargain! At the moment there is a Stubben dressage saddle 18 seat x 8, Boa horse boots, Mears hunting jacket (size 10) and a Gibsons race silk set, with more saddles to be added. If anyone is interested please have a look on Preloved to help to support our equines.
Also, great news this week as Pablo’s Horse Sanctuary is one of the three chosen charities that is being promoted by John Lewis! All you need to do is make a purchase and you will be given a token to place in one of the three chosen charities boxes. John Lewis will then give a donation per token collected in each box. More details to follow.
The supermarket collection at the Co-operative Superstore on Scalford Road in Melton Mowbray is on Saturday 2nd February. So, look out for our volunteers on the day, and please pop over to say hello and any spare change will be really appreciated.
Have a good week.
Polly and Jubail
All the horses and ponies are well this week, and they woke up this morning to find a thin layer of snow on the ground! All snow disappeared later, but after the warm spell over this week it certainly felt like the Winter weather is on its way. However, with warm rugs on the horses and ponies, and plenty of hay this makes them prepared for the colder weather.
As January is usually a quiet month on the fundraising side, we are pleased to be kindly offered a supermarket collection at the Co-operative on Scalford Road in Melton Mowbray on Saturday 2nd February. So, look out for our volunteers on the day, and please pop over to say hello and any spare change will be really appreciated.
Our volunteer Wendy raised £137 worth of sales from the New and Nearly New Equine Stall, from clients contacting Wendy directly. A huge thank you to everyone for supporting Pablos this week, and this really helps with the day-to-day costs. If you would like to purchase direct from Pablo’s, or would like to know what is in stock at the moment, please ring Wendy on 07831 453504, or e-mail at email@example.com. It is planned for the New and Nearly New Equine Stall to be at Rearsby Lodge Dressage show at Brooksby on Sunday 20th January – weather permitting of course.
A huge thank you to Mr & Mrs Thomas of All Ashes Equestrian, who kindly washed some rugs for Pablo’s, it really is appreciated.
Have a good week
All the horses and ponies are well this week and have now all been moved into their Winter quarters on the yard. This gives the fields a good rest for 3 months, ready for the Spring time when they’ll be allowed back on to enjoy the new grass.
Our volunteer Wendy raised £87 worth of sales from the New and Nearly New Equine Stall and a big thank you to everyone for supporting Pablos this week. Wendy is still trying to organise some venues for the stall this year, so if anyone has a new venue or would like a yard visit please contact Wendy on 07831 453504 (please note no message service) or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
This week we would like to give a huge thank you to Suzanne and her girls who went Carol singing around Eastwell over the Christmas period and raised a fantastic £140 for Pablos. Also a huge thank you to Dawn for her kind donation of 100 bales of hay, and for Shawn for collecting and delivering the hay.
We still need 5.9, 6.6, 6.9, 7ft turnout rugs for all the big horses that we have. Also if anyone could donate any steel feed bins? If anyone can help please contact Carole or Wendy.
Have a good week
