Autumn Chills

Arian with Gill, and Lily with Chris

Hi Everyone

All the horses and ponies have been well over the past week. After a warm September and October, the weather has changed over the past few days to remind everyone that Winter is coming! It was quite a surprise on Saturday morning to find a small layer of snow over everything on the yard, but this soon melted away when the sun came out, but the chilly temperatures where still in the air.

We are now looking for a suitable short-term foster home for our lovely Arian and Lily. If you can make room in your life and can offer a field for Arian and Lilly to live in, so that Lily can gallop around and continue to enjoy life, please get in touch. As always an experience home is essential.

We have able to offer and are looking for a suitable foster home for a beautiful 11hh palomino pony called Milly, who is 14 years old. Milly is a fantastic experienced children’s lead-rein pony, who in her younger years competed in games. Milly is great to shoe, box, bomb-proof and traffic-proof and if you are looking for a pony for your young child to ride, please get in touch. Again an experience home only please. Photos of Milly to follow.

After the successful Sponsored Dog Walk last weekend, our next major fundraising event is the Charity Auction on Sunday 25th November at Hamilton Tennis Club, Melton Mowbray. All proceeds will go to help the horses and ponies at Pablo’s Horse Sanctuary. Viewing is on the day between 10.00am and 12.00 noon and the auction will start straight after. Please see the dedicated tab, if you see something that you fancy here on the website, you can place a commissioning bid by emailing Also on the day there is a free Bottle of Champagne raffle, a ‘Win a Big Pink Pig’ Raffle and there will be cards/keyrings and xmas gift tags for sale as well!

A huge thank you this week to long-standing supporter, Graham from Global Safety for his donation of £300, to Wymeswold Canine Citizens Group for their kind donation of £15, to Sue from Melton for her kind donation and also to Dennis and Liz for paying the vet’s bill for Cherry as she needs special care to help keep her hoofs correct.

On Saturday 10th November, John will be holding a stall on Melton Mowbray Market and will have some great home-made jams and chutneys, as well as his super cakes on offer….. don’t miss out!

Have a good week

Sponsored Dog Walk Success

Everyone all ready to go at the start

Hi Everyone

All the horses and ponies are well.

On Saturday 2oth October, the big fundraising event of the 5km Sponsored Walk / Dog Walk took place at RandR Country Superstore on Waltham Road, Thorpe Arnold, in Melton Mowbray. A great fun afternoon was had by all.  With the weather on our side, it was a warm and sunny day and participants started to arrive at the store at 1.30pm. After signing in at the registration table, where the dogs enjoyed the doggie cupcakes made for them from R&R CountryStore, then participants received their doggy goody bag (which contained a portable water bowl, a dog poop bag dispenser, a dog teeth cleaning chew and a £5 voucher to spend at R&R on dog products) a rosette and certificate.   Just after 2.00pm everyone was gathered together for a group photograph. Carole Fielding started the speeches and thanks you, followed by Wendy Beale (RandR Store Manager), and after a short safety brief, the walk was underway!

At the half way point

The group moved as one and headed towards Melton Country Park, the route being guided by Martin Hall with Isaac.  At the half way mark, more photos were taken, and after a short rest the group then continued on the walk. Everyone arrived safely back at RandR Country Superstore, and a magnificent total of over£1100 was raised for Pablo’s Horse Sanctuary. We would like to give a HUGE thank you to the following who participated in the Sponsored Walk / Dog Walk (dog names are in italics):

Mike and Monty

Susan Grogan and Benji; Beverley Adams and Barney; Dawn Webb and Rosie; Rachel Hall and Heidi; Martin Hall and Isaac; Rosie Paine and Maddy; Christine Bell and Sam; Mike Brooman and Monty; Louise James and Max; Mia Brookes and Bonnie, William and Lely with Mable and Jade Townsend

An extra HUGE thank you to everyone who participated in the Sponsored Dog Walk, and of course to Wendy Beale and her great team at RandR Country Superstore for supporting the event and providing such fantastic doggy goodie bags, also to Pee Wee Toilet Hire for supplying the beautiful rosettes.  We would also like to thank the Wymeswold Canine Citizens Group for their very kind sponsorship of £100.  The money raised is to be spent on this quarter’s rent of the main yard and fields at Long Clawson, with the remainder being spent on hay for the horses and ponies.

Christine with Sam, and Rosie with Maddy

This week, we would also like to thank the Waltham Charter Fair committee for their kind donation of £100 and also to volunteer John, who held a stall and delicious cake sale on Melton Market on Saturday which raised £200, and thank you to everyone for their support.

We would like to say a sad farewell to volunteer Kat, who has been volunteering her time at the main yard and also helped by participating in various fundraising events throughout 2012.  Kat has moved back to her hometown in Cornwall and everyone wishes Kat and her family all the very best for their future.  Also, a thank you for Clare who has volunteered her time at the yard twice a week, and has now gone back to work full-time.

Hi Everyone

All the horses and ponies are well over this past week. As Winter is approaching, all the horses and ponies have now started to be rugged up, to keep them warm as the weather is becoming more seasonable. As we have many large horses, we are always needing extra rugs for 6′, 6’6″ and 6’9″ in good condition, if you have any large rugs that you could donate please could you get in touch with Carole (no jute rugs).

It has been recently reported that each year 65,000 horses are driven vast distances across Europe to slaughter. Exhausted, often diseased, injured, stressed and travelling for days over thousands of kilometres: these horses are desperate for food, water and rest. This is a truly shocking figure and a such an awful practice that goes on from the UK. Unfortunately, there are not enough horse sanctuary’s in the UK to be able to help these animals, and although Pablo’s Horse Sanctuary always does its best to keep going, like every other charity, it is always in need of support to help keep it going.

This week we would like to give a huge thank you to volunteer Clare whos husband, Bob Hendy, celebrated his 50th birthday and had a family party whereby he asked for donations instead of presents. An amazing £220 was donated and a big thank you to all the friends and family of Bob Hendy. A huge thank you to Ken and Ann Johnson, who despite being poorly, still held a car boot sale to raised some much needed funds for Pablos. Also a big thank you to Long Clawson village shop and all their customers for putting £31.60 in the collection tin.

Don’t forget it’s the big Pablo’s Sponsored Dog Walk this Saturday at R&R Country Store in Melton Mowbray, starting at 2.00pm – a great and important fundraising event. Also volunteer John will be holding a stall on Melton Mowbray market and he will be selling some of his most delicious home-made cakes.

Also, remember to keep checking out the items that are up for Auction – new items are being added all the time!

Have a good week.

Another warm one!

Lily now 7 months old

Hi Everyone

All the horses and ponies are well and have been enjoying the wonderful sunny weather that we’ve had over the weekend – long may it continue. Our Frankie and Freddie are still looking for suitable foster homes. Frankie and Freddie are two coloured 2-year olds who have not had the best start in life, but are being handled and socialised and are coming on well. If you are interested in having Frankie or Freddie (or both), become part of your lives and have the necessary experience and facilities to bring them further on, please get in touch with Carole.

It’s just under two weeks to go before the fundraising event of the Sponsored Dog Walk on Saturday 20th October starting at R&R Countrystore in Melton Mowbray at 2.00pm. It’s only 5km and the walk is suitable for all levels (and dogs) so please, come along and support us. If you haven’t got a dog – no problem, it’s also a sponsored walk or you could bring a toy dog. For more information please see the tab above.

New field shelter and hay store at Burton Lazars

Over the past week, the Fix-It Team have been hard at work at the site in Burton Lazars where 6 Pablo’s horses and ponies are cared for. A fantastic Winter shelter and hay store has been built, as you can see from the photos, and all complete in time for the on-coming Winter season. Also the Fix-It Team have had a big clean up at the main yard, and a special thank you to Sue and Steve Ruscillo for their help in taking all the rubbish to the local tip in their trailer, which saved on hiring a skip. You’re all stars.

With Christmas coming along soon, we have now got some super Christmas Cards and 2013 Calendars available. All the cards and the calendar have photos of many of the horses and ponies currently being cared for, and all photos have been taken by volunteers. More details on how to get these items are to follow.

A big thank you to Mick (landlord at the Genny B) and Paul Henry for organising a fundraising music event featuring top tribute acts Lady GaGa and Adele on Saturday 29th September which raised £150, and also to Joan and Jeff, who asked for money instead of presents for their 60th Wedding Anniversary party, and then shared this with local animal charities and donated £50 to Pablo’s.

Don’t forget the charity auction which is to be held on Sunday 25th November at Hamilton Tennis Club in Melton Mowbray. New pictures of  items are being added all the time, so please see the tab above for more information, and some pictures of the absolutely fantastic items that are in the auction. Any commissioning bids can be made by emailing

On Saturday 20th October, volunteer John is to hold a Market Stall in Melton Mowbray and is planning to sell some more of his delicious home-made cakes. If anyone would like to donate some home-made cakes for the stall, please get in touch with Carole.
