Hi Everyone

All the horses and ponies are well over this past week.  Our two coloured 2-year olds, Frankie and Freddie are still looking for suitable foster homes.  Frankie and Freddie are currently being handled and socialised and are coming on well.  If you are interested in having Frankie or Freddie (or both), become part of your lives and have the necessary experience and facilities to bring them further on, please get in touch with Carole.

On Saturday night, at the Genny B public house in Melton Mowbray, a fundraising music event featuring top tribute acts Lady GaGa and Adele was held.  A thoroughly enjoyable night was had by all and we would like to give a huge thank you to Mick (at the Genny B) and Paul Henry for organising the event. You’re both stars.

Sunny September

Jack and Kizzy

Hi Everyone

All the horses and ponies are well, and over this past week have all received their worming treatment, either by paste or power depending on how they are able to take it.  They have also been enjoying the lovely warm and crisp weather that we’ve had this week, and so far September has been really mild – long may it continue!

It’s not long now before the Waggin ‘n’ Walkin’ Sponsored Dog Walk, is to take place on Saturday 20th October at 2.00pm.  The meeting and starting point is at R&R Country store, Thorpe End in Melton Mowbray, for a gentle walk around Melton Country Park.  The walk is only 5km and is suitable for all ages and abilities (dogs and owners alike).  If you are able to join and support us on the day, please see the dedicated tab for more information or a registration form, or call 01664 820278.  More participants are needed to hopefully beat last year’s figure – also it’s a fun, friendly afternoon and every dog receives it’s very own doggie goody bag!

Lily relaxing in the September sunshine

Autumn Temperatures

Relaxing in the sun

Hi Everyone

Well that’s another week of lovely weather that we’ve had, and what a pleasant surprise it has been. All the horses and ponies are well and have been relaxing in their paddocks enjoying the sunshine and warm temperatures.

Over the coming week, all the horses and ponies will be having their Autumn worming treatment, and with 40 horses on the yard all the funds raised over the past few weeks has paid for this treatment, so thank you all for your support.  Our new volunteer Jill has started working with Freddie and Frankie on Saturday mornings, and experienced fosters homes are still being sought for these two lovely ponies to bring them both on.

It’s that time of the year when everyone who is sponsoring a horse or pony on the Sponsorship Scheme, or who kindly gives a monthly donation on our Standing Order Scheme, will be receiving their quarterly newsletter – Pablo’s Pony Express.  This edition has been redesigned (thank you to volunteer Sue) and the artwork looks fantastic, so look out for the postman or remember to check your computer for those who now receive it on-line.  For more information on how to join the Standing Order Scheme or how to sponsor a horse or pony, please look on the “How you can help” tab.

A huge thank you to volunteers John, Jen, Mandy and Kat for all their help over this weekend on the fundraising stall at Waltham Charter Fair, which raised just over £150, also thank you to Sarah and Chris Bentley for their very kind gesture of lending and erecting their market stall for us after our Gazebo collapsed first thing on the Saturday morning.

What a Scorcher!

Hi Everyone

Apologies for the delay in getting this week’s latest news and what’s been happening over the last week at Pablo’s…………..

All the horses and ponies are well and have been enjoying the fantastic sunny and warm weather that we had over the weekend.  All the hard work that the Fix-It Team have done over the past year in erecting new field shelters in every field, really came in handy this weekend to provide the much needed shade to while away the relaxing hours.

We now have a lovely lady who is going to work with Frankie and Freddie to help bring them on and we are still looking for an experienced foster home for these two lovely geldings who are approx 2 years old.  However, as Winter will be fast upon us, if you have any spare grazing over the Winter period and would be able to offer Frankie and Freddie turn-out grazing for a few months over Winter, please could you get in touch with Carole.

It’s been quite a bumper weekend for fundraising.  On Saturday, volunteer Rachel was at the Coop Superstore on Scalford Road in Melton, and being joined by Carole later in the day, this raised a fantastic £193.30.  A huge thank you to the Coop and all their super customers for showing such support for the horses and ponies at Pablo’s.  Rachel was joined for a short while by a lovely dog called Winnie, who helped out with the fundraising while her owner dropped in to the cafe for his breakfast.

Equine Stall at Burrough on the Hill

Meanwhile on Saturday, our volunteer Wendy held the New and Nearly-New Equine stall at Burrough on the Hill Fete which raised£100 .  A big thank you to Emma Haygate and The Committee for their support.  On Sunday 9th Wendy took the Equine stall to Arena UK in Grantham, Lincolnshire where an amazing  £292.00 was raised.  A big thank you to  Carole Ramsey and Arena UK for their support.

Due to the success of the stall, we need more stock, in particular rugs and children’s clothes riding kit.  Please contact Wendy on 07831 453504   (please note no message service) or email:  whcarter@onetel.com

Over both days this weekend, volunteers John, Kat, Lynda, Jenny and Mandy will be at the Waltham Charter Fair, Waltham on the Wolds, Leicestershire this weekend holding a tombola, lucky dip and Guess the Pig game. For more information on the event please visit http://walthamcharterfair.vpweb.co.uk/.  If you see any of our volunteer on the stall please pop over and say hello and see if you can win some great prizes.

We would like to give a huge thank you to personal trainer Richard Stanley (39) of Eaton who ran a charity fitness camp course at Melton Country Park for four weeks in July.  An amazing £370 was raised which was divided equally between The Romy Fund and Pablos Horse Sanctuary.

The course promised to help people lose a stone or drop a dress size in 30 days and involved participants taking part in 12 workouts which helped improve strength and stamina, they also followed a healthy diet plan.

A huge thank you to Richard for his support for Pablo’s and if you would like to find out more please visit Richard’s website at www.personal-trainernottingham.co.uk or contact Richard on 07722 387 209 or email info@personal-trainernottingham.co.uk

Don’t forget it’s the Sponsored Dog Walk on Saturday 20th October starting at 2.00pm.  This is Pablo’s biggest annual fundraising event and we need more participants – so if you have a dog please support us by joining in the fun afternoon and you’ll receive a certificate, rosette and doggy goodie bag.  If you don’t have a dog – that’s no problem – just bring toy one!  Please see the new tab or you can download the registration form  here.

Dreamer and Sue

Hi Everyone

All the horses and ponies are well and have recovered from all the excitement of last weekend, when the Open Day was held.

This week, we are pleased to be able to bring you these latest photos of Darcy and  Dreamer, two of the Dartmoor yearlings who are being fostered by Karen and Sue near Newark.  They have both had a successful visit from the farrier and, as you can see from the photos they are both looking very well and have settled into their new home.

Darcy and Karen

We would like give a warm welcome to Lauren who is 14 years old and has chosen Pablo’s Horse Sanctuary for her volunteer work for her Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Also, we would like to introduce a new addition to the Sanctuary, a lovely old mare called Miranda who in her mid 20’s.  Miranda is a dark bay and around 16.2hh who was due to be euthenised and came as an emergency case.  A good friend of Pablo’s paid for her transport costs to  get her to the yard, and she has settled in very well and loves all the attention from our volunteers.  We wish could help all the horses and ponies that are in need of sanctuary, but as like all other horse charities we are total full.

Arian and Lauren (DoE)
