All the horses and ponies are well, and with all this mild weather and rain this week, the horses and ponies have all been enjoying themselves rolling around in the mud. Apart from them all looking very pleased with themselves, it’s going to be a big job brushing the mud off before they can have their Winter rugs put on! Willow’s hock is recovering well from his fall last week, but unfortunately on Saturday, Lady (a beautiful 15.2hh chestnut mare who is 30-years old) who came to Pablo’s in November 2010, slipped on the yard and fell over. Lady was really shaken by her fall, so she was stabled overnight. This morning Lady was looking over her stable-door wanting to join her companions, so when back in her paddock she happily cantered off down the field absolutely fine.
We are very sorry to report this week, the sad passing of Ezra. Ezra was a very striking looking horse who was extremely sociable and inquisitive. Ezra was approx 21 years old, and in the care of Pablo’s for the past 4 years. Unfortunately his previous hip injury started to flare-up, and after many visits from the vet, on the vet’s recommendation Ezra was put gently to sleep.
Ezra came from a loving home, but developed a hip injury and could not be ridden, so came to live at Pablo’s. Ezra loved people, was very laid back, quickly won people’s affections and had a habit of licking anything he took a fancy too!! We like to say a big thank you to Andrea and Rob who looked after Ezra so well during his time with us, he will be truly missed, in particular by Andrea and Rob, who loved him dearly. It was a pleasure to have known and cared for Ezra in his last years.
On Monday 7th November a team of 15 from Pedigree Petfoods spent the day at Pablo’s to help out with yard maintenance. Last week, an early Christmas present arrived from Pedigree Petfoods consisting of new menage rails, gates, sheep hurdles, tools and a new hay ring-feeder, in readiness for the volunteers arrival. All day the team of 15 worked really hard and repaired two sides of the menage, fixed guttering to the stables at the back and repaired fencing. A huge thank you to Pedigree Petfoods for their kind gifts, and to everyone who came on the day, and to volunteer Gerry Bell who is took a day’s annual holiday to supervise.
